EducationUSA Advisers Conferences, Workshops & Programs

Later this month over 100 EducationUSA advisers will converge on Mexico City for the Western Hemishphere triennial regional advising conference. Of the many remarkable things about this event is that this year, there will be over 50 US higher education community members in attendance.

Though the event is billed as an Adviser Training Program, as many sessions are geared toward updating advisers' skills and knowledge base, the week-long agenda also includes several opportunities for the US higher education community to present with or to advisers, as well as numerous meals and more social events at which institutional reps and advisers get to know each other. The importance of relationships in the international education world cannot be underestimated, and I won't belabor the point here. What I will say is that in this increasingly competitive global marketplace we find ourselves in, at EducationUSA we recognize that while our advisers work every day with students in the 170 countries we operate, in order for us to be truly successful in our mission, we must also reach out to our US colleagues that are eager to enroll these students.

We are making concerted efforts to encourage US college and university representatives to attend these regional conferences (as well as other events where EducationUSA is represented) now and in the future. In addition to the opportunity to interact with advisers from through Latin America and the Caribbean, we have arranged (through our good friend, Juan Camilo Tamayo at Lynn University, a series of international & national school visits on one day of the conference when advisers will have specific sessions focused on center needs. Mucho gracia, Camilo!

Though the deadline has passed for the upcoming WHA conference, we invite you to save the dates of March 21-25, 2010 in Prague, for the Europe/Eurasia Triennial Workshop where more than 100 advisers will also be present. Additionally in 2010, there will be the African EducationUSA Advisers Conference in Johannesburg, South Africa in September (dates tba).

We hope to see you in the coming months both at home and abroad!
